Nature of Work ***This job opportunity is not in the classified service and is not covered by the WV Division of Personnel merit system.*** Wildlife Resources Section/Elkins Operations Center The employee will have statewide coordination responsibilities dealing with the Division of Natural Resources responsibilities under the Clean Water Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, Endangered Species Act, and other environmental laws and regulations. The employee under limited supervision performs biological/ecological tasks as it relates to the hydropower industry, oil and gas industry, wind power industry, private developers, mitigation banking, Division of Highways, and other entities that impact the state's natural resources. The purpose of coordination is to provide assistance to these industries and other regulatory agencies in order to avoid, minimize and when necessary mitigate for unavoidable impacts to the aquatic and terrestrial communities. The employee will be responsible for: meeting with developers to discuss impacts on the Division's charge resources; applying statistical and GIS tools to collected data; preparing detailed statistical/narrative reports to defend the program's intended purpose; compiling, analyzing and presenting findings of surveys, assessments and studies to a variety of audiences using a variety of media; providing written comments, correspondence and reviews based on scientific principles addressing the effects of project impacts; developing and reviewing written mitigation plans based on the review of technical project documents; and reviewing and understanding construction plans for various industries. Work involves the application of scientific principles and techniques used in aquatic and terrestrial ecology, laws and regulations and program planning skills. The employee will interact with various governmental agencies/departments both at the federal and state level. Those include but are not limited to: National Park Service, National Resources Conservation Service, US Army Corps of Engineers, US Environmental Protection Agency, US Fish and Wildlife Service, National Park Service, WV Conservation Agency, WV Department of Environmental Protection, and environmental non-governmental organizations. The employee will interact with various programs within Wildlife Resources. They will solicit and coordinate comments from Diversity, Game Management, and Fish Management to formulate the Division's comments on various environmental permits and policies. Provides critical review of compensatory mitigation plans based on the review of technical project documents. The employee will provide assistance to Diversity, Game and Fish on various field studies/management. Will represent the Division's interest on various state/federal committees and work groups. Throughout the year there will be some overnight stays, work in difficult terrain, and work in inclement weather or during non-traditional hours may be required. Performs other related duties as assigned. Regular attendance is required.

Minimum Qualifications Training: Master of Science degree from an accredited college or university with a major in wildlife or fisheries management and biology, fish culture, conservation biology, natural resources, aquatic biology, botany, biological sciences or environmental sciences. Preference will be given to educational and field experience as related to specific job postings.
AND Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in wildlife or fishery management or related fields.
OR Substitution: Doctor of Philosophy degree from an accredited college or university with a major in wildlife or fisheries management and biology, fish culture, conservation biology, natural resources, aquatic biology, botany, biological sciences or environmental sciences.
OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university with a major in wildlife or fisheries management and biology, fish culture, conservation biology, natural resources, aquatic biology, botany, biological sciences or environmental sciences.
AND Six (6) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in wildlife or fishery management or related fields.
Special Requirements: A valid driver's license is required. May be required to obtain a commercial driver's license. Skill in swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, rock-climbing, rappelling and/or trapping may be required for certain positions.
