Salary Range : Up to $15.00 per hour, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours : 19 hours per week, non-exempt.

Essential Functions

Job Summary

This is a grant-funded position, which may be extended or shortened based upon availability of grant funds and/or work.

Assist in the performance of day-to-day basic research lab function and human behavioral and physiological sleep experimentation requiring a basic working knowledge of scientific methods of human sleep research.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for assignments that require technical knowledge to modify or adapt routine procedures under the direction of a supervisor to meet special research requirements.
  2. Collects and compiles data, computes quantities, extends estimates, and makes and records observations/measurements.
  3. Sets up and operates equipment as directed by the supervisor.
  4. Assists in the design of equipment.
  5. Edit simple computer programs and prepare technical reports.
  6. Assists in maintaining and cleaning laboratory equipment.
  7. Inventories supplies and equipment.
  8. Attends related research conferences and meetings as required.
  9. Takes a proactive approach to assist co-workers in various tasks, to ensure safety.
  10. Performs work tasks in a safe manner and in accordance with work instructions.
  11. Proactively makes recommendations to improve safety.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned, including scheduling participants.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the field of assignment.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two years of human sleep & memory basic research for non-clinical purposes.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
  • Some knowledge of the basic equipment used in the field of research to which assigned.
  • Knowledge of special equipment used in the field of assignment.
Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the basic physiological equipment used in the field of human memory and sleep research as well handling relevant software (e.g., EEG lab) and different file formats.

Working Conditions

Working Environment:
  • Laboratory, office, or outdoor fieldwork.
  • Requires working with hazardous equipment or materials occasionally.
Physical Demands:
  • The ability to work safely with chemical disinfectants, handle some unpleasant elements, and tolerate normal odors/airborne is required.
This position will require working both remotely in Texas and on campus (approximately five or more days on campus per month). Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
